I Was Malled!
Made it to the Aladdin and Paris casinos today. I like to the look at these mega resorts, and I enjoy the food, but beyond that it's more of the same. I do find it a bit strange that the it rains inside the Desert Passage (the shopping mall at the Aladdin). I don't spend much time at malls. Almost none. I remember when enclosed malls were a new thing. Before the South Shore Mall in Bay Shore, Long Island, NY was enclosed back in the early '70's, it was an outside shopping center (I remember buying my first record albums there). At the time, everyone was talking about how great it was to have an enclosed mall, to be out of the elements. It was all the buzz. Strangely enough though, they started planting live trees and other plants inside the mall. Made one wonder why they enclosed it to begin with. Now, I find that there are malls that have man made weather inside as well. At regularly scheduled times, faux thunder and lightning begin with what is the equivalent to the sprinklers going off. I don't get it. There are some interesting shops though. One in particular is called Art of Music. The signed David Bowie guitar looked tempting.

Hey it's raining in the mall! Run into the nearest store to ride out the storm.

Monsoon Season
The season started some weeks ago, but this week was somewhat spectacular. Back in the early '90's I used to visit the Palm Springs area of the desert, and in the late August afternoons it was quite common to see a lightning show. Thursday night here in Las Vegas was a perfect example of how the monsoonal flow can change the weather in a matter of minutes. The lightning was non-stop for about two hours, and was incredible to watch. Of course there is the danger of flash flooding, but luckily that didn't happen this go-round. The only casualty of the event was a sign, for the Stardust hotel on the strip, that caught fire.

'blog-on
I gave some thought as to whether or not I should talk about why it's been so long since my last post, but here it goes. Work is pretty intense right now. My company has so many irons in the fire that I have been continuously playing catch up on taking all the information in. I love it! After securing sponsors for an event launching our new Home & Design magazine in Las Vegas, now I am working with the Caesar's Palace Forum Shops on launching a new perfect bound magazine promoting their new phase of the shopping mall. I'm working on my latest pitch. Hey mister! ..... You wouldn't want to buy an ad would you? I'll let you know how it works.
